Four Days.

Today at work, I was running a young adult group and we got on the topic of "what does it mean to be thankful?". We hear it all the time but I think it is different for each of us. So, I am taking upon myself to assume you all are chomping at the bit wanting my answer to this question...right? Here it is.
To be thankful for something means my life was or has been somehow changed by that thing. It was made better, happier, more comforting, more fullfilled by that thing. To be thankful is to realize that there is something greater at work here in our lives. I think it is also an overwhelming feeling of completion because of that thing to which we are thankful.
Prior to that group at work today, I had arranged to have a Thanksgiving meal for the young adults. Our drug rep (yes, I had sold my soul to the devil) brought Dinosaur b-b-q! And as we sat there, all 15 of us, at one table, eating and talking I realized that this might have been the highlight of some of their holidays. Not because I am special but because some of their lives are not calm. Turbulance. Chaos. Symptoms. And it might have been one of the few times that some of them felt a sense of normalcy with their peers. That was nice.
That moment got me thinking about my list of things. This year my list is smaller but more important than in the past. I try to take time each day to appreciate that which is around me but life happens and then we realize how busy we all are. Ideally we celebrate each day but it is nice that we holidays to remind us of it all. Happy Thanksgiving!
